Electronic receipt (telematic takings): what it is in Italy

The electronic receipt is the commercial document that replaced Italy’s old paper fiscal receipt. The technical term is telematic takings (corrispettivi telematici): the restaurant, via a telematic register (or a web procedure), records and transmits its daily takings to the tax authority in digital form.

For the guest little changes — they get a “commercial document” on paper or digitally — but for the operator the process changes: takings are sent automatically, without the old manual fiscal close.

What it means for a restaurant

It’s a legal obligation for anyone doing retail sales and food service. It integrates with the till and, increasingly, with payments: the POS for cards and pay-at-table tools connect to the recording of takings. A well-integrated digital ecosystem reduces errors and end-of-service time.
